- VISION : Sustainable growth of Livestock sector by enhancing livestock and poultry productivity for attaining nutritional security, economic prosperity, employment generation characterized by : *low capacity requirement *promoting of local resources *compatible with local lifestyle *users friendly technology *active participation of local people *easy marketability of the produce.

4.1 Veterinary Health coverage:
Veterinary Health cover is provided through a network of Veterinary Hospitals, Dispensaries and Rural Animal Health Centres.
4.1.1 Services available at Hospitals and Dispensaries:
- Treatment of sick animals of both large and small including major and minor surgery.
- Immunization against contagious and infectious diseases.
- Artificial Insemination in Cattle and Pig.
- Consultation.
- Meat Inspection.
- Post-mortem investigation.
- Dispensing.
4.1.2 Services available at Rural Animal Health Centre:
- Treatment of sick animal both large and small.
- Vaccination against contagious diseases of livestock and poultry.
- Minor surgical operations like castration and ovarectomy, minor injury etc.
- Dispensing.
- A.I. in selected centres only.
4.2 Service charges:
There is no service charges at these institutes. However, Registration fee @ Rs 10/animal, and immunisation certificate @ Rs 50/animal are collected for government Revenue except in poultry.

4.5 Disease Investigation:
There is separate Disease Investigation section under Directorate of A.H. & Vety Department. This section renders the following services :
- Examination of Blood, Stool, Urine etc.
- Parasites and Bacterial examinations.
- Biological/Serological analytical.
- Allergen/Aflatoxin tests.
- Elisa test.
- Antibiotic sensitivity test.
- Post mortem examination.
- Procurement and distribution of Medicine, Vaccine, Instruments and appliances.
- Veterinary Public Health:
5.1 Provision for availability of Clean/Hygienic Meat:
The Department have established Slaughter Houses at Mualpui and Bawngkawn, Aizawl. Two Veterinary Doctors are posted here to check the health of animals and to ensure that only healthy animals are slaughtered for human consumption by conducting
Ante-Mortem examination of animals as well as Post-Mortem examination of meat.

6.1 Cattle Development:
- The Department is maintaining Seven(7)nos Cattle Farms at Thenzawl, Mampui, Lunglei (Lungpuizawl), Selesih, Thingdawl, Siaha and
- Four (4) nos. of Calf Rearing Farms at Selesih, Kolasib, Champhai and Lungpuizawl.

6.2 Piggery Development
The Department is now maintaining Seven (7) nos Piggery Farms which are:
- Pig Multiplication Farm, Thingsulthliah.
- Base Pig Farm, Lungpuizawl, Lunglei.
- Zovawk (Indigenous Pig) Farm, Lungpuizawl, Lunglei.
- Piggery Farm, Mampui, Lawngtlai.
- Piggery Farm, Thingdawl, Kolasib.
- Regional Boar Semen Station, Selesih.
The above farms are mostly for conducting demonstration and training for interested Piggery Farmers. The pig/piglets when available are sold to public.
- Goat Breeding Farm, Thenzawl:
Goat rearing is gaining popularity in the state but rearing the goat breed/variety available in the state is uneconomical due to their small body size. Thus, to evolve a suitable goat variety of dual purpose i.e., for meat & milk, the Department inducted superior breeds of Beetal and Sirohi from Ajmer, Rajasthan. These Goats are reared at Thenzawl and their offsprings shall be sold to progressive farmers for further multiplication and cross breeding and upgrading local breed.
- Poultry Development:
Poultry Farms:
The Department at present maintained Poultry Farms at Selesih, Tanhril, Lunglei, Siaha, Thingdawl, Champhai, Mampui, Serchhip, Thenzawl & Mamit. These Farms serve as training and demonstration centres, supply of brooded chicks and eggs. Day old chicks hatched at Zoram Poultry Development Farm, Tanhril are marketed as below:

- Feed & Fodder Development:
9.1 Animal Feeds: The Department is now running one Animal Feed Plant at Ramrikawn, Tanhril with the average production of 3 ton per day. Various animal feeds produced from this Plant are sold to public through sales outlet at Tanhril and Department Sales Emporium, Khatla, Aizawl.

- Broiler Grower - Rs. 33 per kg
- Broiler Finisher mash - Rs. 36 per kg

9.2 Fodder: The Department is maintaining Fodder farms located at different district out of which Fodder Farm at Thenzawl is the main farm. Green fodder , Hay and Fodder seeds as well as fodder stumps produced at this farm are sold to interested farmers for feeding and cultivation. Fodder produced from other farms are mostly utilised for feeding of farm animals. Selling rate of different items is shown below:

- Extension, Education & Training:
The main work of this division is transfer of technologies from Laboratory to farmer’s doorsteps through seminar, workshop and training conducted by field Officers. Collection of the progress and activities of various sections and subordinate offices, publication of Magazine, leaflets etc. and to organise livestock shows and participating in such programmes, maintenance of liberty and records. Under this division, the Department have the following facilities:
10.1 Integrated Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Training Institute at Lunglei (Lungpuizawl): This institution has a capacity of 24 students per batch. The course duration of the institution is two years. Basic Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science is taught which shall enable the students to take up Minor Veterinary services as well as to equip them to start their own farm. Interested persons may enquire from Directorate of A.H. & Vety, Khatla, Aizawl Mizoram.
10.2 Artificial Insemination training Centres: AI Training Centre is located at A.H Farm, Selesih where training for Field staff and farmers are conducted from time to time. One who is interested may enquire at A.H. & Vety Directorate.
10.3 Training of various kinds for farmers are conducted from time to time throughout the state.
10.4 Magazine: a Magazine ‘Ranvulh Puitu’ is regularly published by the Department. Important articles on Livestock farming and management, disease control and prevention and other related articles written by experts are published and distributed free of cost to interested farmers and prospective farmers. The magazine is available at each District Hospitals, Dispensaries and at each District Offices.
10.5 Library : The department is having Department Library at Directorate of A.H. & Vety. Books mainly of A.H. & Vety concern are available for references. Some Booklets, Leaflets are also available for interested persons.
- BIOGAS:
Biogas or National Biogas and Manure Management Programme is implemented by the Department as the Department is in close contact with Livestock Farmers who are the main beneficiaries.
Most Biogas plants in Mizoram is based on Cattle dung with few units based on pig dung. Biogas linked to community septic tank has not yet been popularised in Mizoram, but few units have been installed.

- Mizoram State Veterinary Council :
As envisaged in the Indian Veterinary Council Act 1984, a Statutory Body called Mizoram State Veterinary Council is established with the Aims and Objectives:-
- To register all Veterinary Graduates within the State, maintain records under the Act, Proclaim those registered as Practitioner.
- To regulate and maintain Standard of Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Code of Ethics for Practitioner.
- To uphold and promote Veterinary Profession through continuing of Veterinary Education.
- To monitor Professional Conduct and Performance of Practitioner.
- To create Disciplinary Committee under the Act to take necessary action upon the practitioner who commit professionally misconduct and misbehaviour.
- Name and designation of the Public Information Officers under Right to Information Act (RTI)
