1.Disease Investigation:
In order to prevent and control any disease outbreak with the state of art facility to investigate, surveyed,study the aetiology,mode of occurance of diseases.This wing gave instruction to field officer and staff to combat the prevailing disease and to take the measure for its preventioin and control.This wing can render the following services.
* Examination of Blood,Stool,Urine etc.
* Parasites and Bacterial examinations.
* Biological/Serological analytical.} As per
* Allergen/Aflatoxin tests.} availability of
* Elisa tests.} reagents.
* Antibiotic sensitivity tests.}
* Post mortem examination.
* Procurement and distribution of Medicine,Vaccine,Instruments and appliances is also taken up by this wing.
2. Development of Dairy Industry:
The Department is maintains Cattle rearing/breeding farms within the states.These farms are mostly for demonstration and training purposes for the farms.These are :-
* Cattle Rearing farm at Thenzawl,Mampui,Lunglei(Lungpuizawl),Selesih,Thingdawl,Saiha.
* Calf Rearing farm at Selesih and Lunglei(Lungpuizawl).
3. Animal Husbandary,Development of Livestock & Poultry
(1) Piggery Development:
The Department maintains 10 pig farms at:-
1. Regional Pig Breeding Fram,Selesih.
2. Mega Seed Farm,Selesih.
3. Pig Multification Farm,Thingdawl.
4. Pig Demonstration Farm,Kolasib.
5. Base Pig Farm,Lunglei(Lungpuizawl).
6. Zovawk(Local Pig)Farm,Lunglei(Lungpuizawl).
7. Pig Breeding Farm,Hnahthial.
8. Piggery Farm,Mampui.
9. Piggery Farm,Thenzawl.
10. Piggery Farm,Mamit.
The farms are initially for demonstration but then continued to maintain as breeding farm for product of high yielding variety of pig for the farmers.Some of the farms are being maintained as and instructional farms for the farmers.With the Government of India policy for conservation of indigenous variety which are in the verse of extinction,the department established 1(One) pig farm for conservation of indigenous pig which is classified as"MIzo Vawk".The objective of the farm being productiion of improve variety of piglet for further reproduction of meat through farmers intervention.
(2)Artificial Insemination in Pig
Breeding programme is carried on with a mechanism initially applied with natural service.With the advancement in the technology the artificial insemination is being carried on since 1997.The practice of A.I. till date is found successful like we have seen in other advance countries.
Presently, the Department established the A.I. centres at Aizawl,Lunglei,Kolasib,Champhai & Serchhip.The service of these centres is 24hours and as per report and demand.The demand may be intimated to Hospitals and Dispensaries of the above mentioned District Headquarters.

4. Cattle Development :
(a) Mithun: Following the policy of conservation of thratened breed of cattle across the country,the Department take up the policy by establishing Mithun Farm at Zawlnghak. The farm is established and being maintained through Central assistance.
(b) Biogas Development: Following suggestion received from the scientist,Goverment of India to maximized utility of livestock byproducts,Biogas development is being setup by the Department from the year 1982.The programme is being carried on with the assistance received from Government of India,Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
(c) Feed and Fodder Development: Feed and Fodder is inseparable component of livestock and poultry development.
Feed: The Department take up the said development programme by establishing two animal feed mixing plant,one at Selsih and Tanhril where different varieties of ingredients are compounded to manufacture different types of livestock and poultry feed.
Fodder: Fodder constitute the 70% of the total food stuff of cattle.As such the said development programme is carried on by establishing fodder farms at Thenzawl,Lunglei,Saiha and Mampui.Wher nutritious an certified grasses are being produced for the animal asa well as seed for such type of gresses are produce for further desimination.
5.Artificial Insemination in Cattle
To improve breedable livestock population and to increase genetical potential of the existing livestock,the Department implement artificial inseminatiion programme by adopting Government of India Programme,NPCBB(National Programme on Cattle and Buffalo Breeding).
As envisaged by NPCBB,following centres are established:
Aizawl District : Sihphir,Durtlang,Bawngkawn,Khatla,Tanhril,Melriat,Aibawk,Thingsulthliah,Saitual,Lumgdai,Selesih,Darlawn.
Kolasib District : Kawnpui,Kolasib,Bilkhawthlir.
Champhai District : Khawzawl, Champhai.
Serchhip District : Serchhip,Thenzawl.
Lunglei District : Hnahthial,Lunglei,Lungpuizawl.
Lawngtlai District : Lawngtlai.
Natural service by improved breed in cattle
The Department is now providing 3 breeding bulls each to the districts of Mizoram for the purpose of Rendering Provision for Natural Service to where A.I facility is not convenient and inappropriate.
6. Poultry Development
The Department takes up Poultry development in the stste as establishment of farms in the development programmes.The Department maintains poultry farems at Selesih,Tanhril,Lumglei,Saiha,Thingdawl,Champhai,Mampui,Serchhip,Thenzawl and Mamit.These farms are initially for demonstration and as instructional purposes.These farms are being continually maintain as an unit for production of chicks for further desimination through farmer intervention in 1997,the department maintain these farms for low input birds.
From time to time the state department take up special scheme introduced by Government of India in the said development.
7. Veterinary Education,Training & Research:
(1) Provision for Extention and Education & Training:
The Department is having one school of Vety.Science located at Lunglei(Lungpuizawl).This institution is for 27 Students capacity.For those who pass out from that institutions can apply for the post of Veterinary Field Assistants in the Stste Government if and when the job is available.Besides that,they can do private practice,as far as their knowledge in A.H & Vety.Subject permits for earning their livelihood.Also they will become most eligible to begin private farm.The course duration of the institution is one year.Interested person may enquire from Directorate of A.H & Vety,Khatla,Aizawl,Mizoram.
(2) Farmers Training Centres : There is farmers training centre at Directorate of A.H & Vety. under extension wing.Farmers training are conducted time to time for the farmers.One who is interested may require at A.H & Vety.Directorate itself.
(3) Training of various kinds are conducted time to time throughout the state when provision are available under ATMA,RKVY etc.
(3) Magazine : A Magazine 'Ranvulh Puitu' is continously publish by the Department.This Magazine is really very helpful for livestock and poultry farmers.Also very helpful for the purpose of healthy and prosperous keeping of domestic animals as whole.The Magazine is available at each Districts Hospitals,Dispensaries and at each District Offices.
(4) Library : Extension wing of Directorate is having Department Library at Directorate of A.H & Vety.Books mainly of A.H & Vety.concern are available for references.Some Booklets,Leaflets are also available for interested persons.
8. Veterinary Public Health and Meat inspection Marketing:
1.Slaughter House:
The Department have now established Slaughter House at Bungbangla and Mualpui,Aizawl.With the set up of machinary,well known healthy pigs and cattles are slaughtered here by stunning method.By taking all hygienic measures the meat are processed and packed carefully with the following forms and rates:-
